Date Speaker Program

We strive to offer educational programs that are genealogical or historically oriented. Frequently, in addition to our monthly featured program, we provide a short (usually 15-20 minutes) 'hornbook' session by an Education Committee member that focuses on a genealogy research topic, plus a 'Bits and Pieces' segment that details interesting genealogy news, tips, and research sources.

June 8 Don Weathersby, Historian & Buisnessman "Memories and Tales of Shreveport and Bossier City's Past". Don Weathersby gives a colorful description of some of the historic movers and shakers that influenced this area.

September 14 Glenda Bernard and Peggy Suzanne La Cour Their presentation will be based on lessons learned from attending the Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research (IGHR) at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. Title of their program is "From Birmingham to Shreveport - The Best of the Best Ideas"
October 6 Gary Pinkerton, Author and Historian "History of Trammel's Trace"  This was an early 19th century migration trail that ran from the Red River at Fulton, Arkansas and connected with the Camino Real Trail at Natchitoches, Texas.

*NOTE: LOCATION - The Broadmoor Branch Library will host this program to commemorate October Family History Month and will be held at the Library, 1212 Capt Shreve Drive, Shreveport. Time: 2 - 3:30 pm; Free and open to the public.

CG or Certified Genealogist are service marks of the Board for Certification of Genealogists, used under license by Board-certified associates after periodic competency evaluations, and the board name is registered in the US Patent & Trademark Office.

Note: Monthly meetings are held on the second Saturday of the month from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Randle T. Moore Center, 3101 Fairfield Avenue Shreveport Louisiana (Fairfield Avenue at Kings Highway). Other events are located as noted.
